Why dont put wordpress? With Board,Content etc you will just loose money because you dont have any ads on site and you will depend on donations.

I don't understand.

We use Wordpress for ArcheAge-Online.com.

Wordpress isn't a forum (though it can become one, but buddypress isn't very good in my opinion), so it can't be used to replace Invision Power Board.

But don't worry about the costs, I'll pay for it out of pocket.

I know what is Wordpress :) I said that because why spend 50$ for content and 25$ for board renewal if you can leave this version of board and have free cms like Wordpress. I dont know what version is this forum but i think its 3.3.2 / 3.3.4 and there is no big difference comparing it to 3.4.1 version. I have it so i know :) And on Wordpress upload some premium theme you like, edit colours, logo and background and you will have great looking cms instead buying content. Am telling you this because you will as i see depend on donations and thats how much?
5$ you said for cloud hosting
45$ for vps

thats 50$ per month, thats not small money.

As i know you dont need to pay ipb renewal. If your ipb license is expired you can use last version of forum when your license is expired. Its not about ipb vs vb its more about how much admin needs to pay per month. Vbulletin become so much expensive that alot of people asking questions is it really fair to have 250$ forum. I cant compare ipb vs vb, every forum software have +/- but if he wants paid software then better to buy ipb because he already paid 175$ so renewal of board will be 25$+ 50$ for content.

I used vBulletin for five or six years. I don't really like it all that much anymore. Does the ACP still use frames? ;)

I would never consider Elitepvpers a healthy community, just saying. ;)

Yeah I could continue to use this version of IPB indefinitely, but the issue is future-proofing. Will new modifications only be released for new versions of IPB? Will we be left in the dust eventually without bug fixes or security fixes? That kind of thing is a bit worrying.

Besides, I can afford to purchase this software out of my own wallet if necessary, I just want people to be aware of the costs. :)

Last security fixes are released 27 Dec for 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 versions. So security is not different from latest version because they care about all versions. But listen if you have money buy it :)

Oh nooo...

Seriously? Man I'd still know exactly how everything works! That crazy long drop-down menu for the main settings still gives me nightmares...
