It is my sincere hopes that Trion is keeping quiet here to see how the different monetization systems impact the gaming community and are coming up with a best of both worlds approach. I think the petition was a good idea and did some good overall. If XL is to implement one plan to rule them all then it will be our voices and our efforts that will ultimately have an impact on that. Trion has a good reputation overall and they will not likely implement something that their fans will be so diametrically opposed to. If this is the case then the petition was hugely successful in sending a message that I would like to think Trion is listening to. If they have XL's ears then we should see a different model at least here in the West. I really hope that our Russian players can eventually benefit even if they did not see immediate results.
As for a best of both worlds approach I would love to see a vip option like several f2p games have these days. You can either pay a sub for benefits or play for free with a slight gimp. If you are choosing to play with a gimp you can take advantage of CS options to help alleviate some of the gimp via convenience items etc. The CS should not offer P2W items but cosmetic and convenience items such as bags and ways to help close the gap between f2p and vip players. NCSoft did a great job with their monetization system with The Secret World. You actually buy additional content but the content isn't necessary to win, it is just there to enjoy should you choose to buy it (And it isn't in your face). The CS is cosmetic in nature for the most part and subs get CS currency allotted each month.
Also remember, a petition is only as good as its content. To create a petition that simply says "Do away with X" or "Fix Y" is not effective. You should also include ideas on what you would like to replace the broken feature or system you do not like.
