Slightly off-topic, but did the 8.1 update do much in your opinion?

Yes, like dx 11.2 and you get better fps in "battlefield" as i could see so far. Am also worried about problems, like today i saw win8.1 have some mouse problems in some games and they fixed it but for only 16 games and there is no date when they fixed it so am trying to gather much informations about 8.1 for gaming before i choose what to install.

Better FPS you are talking about is not more than 2 FPS in most games. And i am not sure if there is a properly working "crack" for windows 8.1 around considering that you wont purchase it. Windows 7 is more stable, thus, better imo.

Am ordering computer today,

MSI Z77A-G43 GAMING Sockel 1155 ATX
Intel Core i7-3770K Boxed
MSI N780 TF 3GD5/OC 3GB GDDR5
WD Blue Desktop WD10EZEX 1TB
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2
Corsair RM Series 850 Watt

and old Corsair 8Gb RAM.

Am wondering is it gonna bottleneck with this processor if i DONT overclock it. I like to wait until warranty is over and then improve or destory processor with my super noob skills.

Windows 8 and 8.1 actually give better performance overall than 7. I know people hate what the Start screen looks like, but under that the operating system is basically unchanged visually. There's a ton of performance improvements between the two operating systems though, especially in the SSD-tuning department.

On my new laptop I went with 8.1, set the desktop as the default boot screen and got Start8 to bring back the old style start menu.

I don't think i7 will be even close to bottleneck though it would be stupid not to overclock it's so much wasted power they can handle so much more unless ofc you got a bad chip. Sure if you are planning to use the factory cooler in the cpu you can't really boost it up much, unless their quality has gone up a lot. I still have my old i5 2500k with msi780 they are both pretty overclocked but the usage of processor on games is pretty minimal. I've had my i5 2500k on 4,6mhz clocks since I bought it like 3 years ago or so and it's still kicking ass. I was planning to upgrade pretty much everything sometime next year though it's getting a bit outdated. And if you are not looking for maximum performance of your cpu you can just use the ready overclock presents every single bios have had for a long time. They work just as fine if you are going for example 4-4.4 clocks. I have been really bummed out lately when I bought 1440p screen and the msi780 can't handle it at all the difference with 1080p is just huge getting around 50% the fps I got with smaller screen.

I know that when i choose to clock processor that i need better cooler and thats fine, but if i understood good, you are saying that i can buy new cooler and use bios settings to auto overclock it to 4-4.4?

You can probably get that easily even with the stock cooler it all depends on the processor it's kinda lottery if you get one that stays cooler. Basic coolers aren't that big investment though. 50e gives you pretty much best ones out there for casual overclocking and you can get one for a lot cheaper as well. I have seen people that can't overclock to past 4,2 even with a proper air cooler because their chip just handles it badly. I got lucky with my processor and it handles it perfectly. But I'm pretty sure that even the stock cooler can handle overclocks to at least 4-4.2. I only started noticing any temperature changes after 4,4, but again it's a lottery.

Yea, but i saw some videos about saving "overclock profiles" in motherboard so you can load profile and auto overclock it, but i never saw anyone giving away overclock profile so i need to learn how to do it in hard way.

Windows 8.1 for sure. It's the better OS now and buying a new copy of Windows 7 is not worth it.

Though if you already have Windows 7, the upgrade is not worth it that much.

I tried to live with the metro trying to disable it every way possible, but still couldn't stand that shitty os. If there really is a significant performance boost using win8 I could consider it again though. I never fucking understood why they would change the whole os to work completely differently from the ten previous ones. I want to see some real data and test results how that piece of crap is better.

Check out classic start menu. My Win8 looks exactly like Win7!

Except there is metro running in the background taking 8 gigs of memory.

For those of you who haven't upgraded to Windows 8, I suggest doing so. Sure, the metro app  bullshit is, well, bullshit and stupid. But you're able to modify the operating system and disable all of that junk. The OS itself is extremely optimized, and unlike what Inporylem said, doesn't use 8GB of memory to sustain itself for use. It does suck that you have to add third party programs and fiddle with a few things to put the start bar back on, but it isn't that much of a hassle and takes only several minutes. It's an extremely compatible operating system and if you ever have troubles running a program simply use the compatability mode which you still have to do occasionally with Windows 7, so that's not that big of a deal anyway.
