Post-CBT3 Fact-finding Mission Got questions you want answered? Post 'em!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again. Now that CBT3 is over, we've got the chance to ask XLGAMES some questions about what we saw! We allow you, the fans, to post questions and then we AAS staff choose the best ones, polish them up, and send them in.

If you weren't here for the first "ask XLGAMES a question" thread, don't worry, the rules are simple:

  • Don't ask the following:
    • Questions about ArcheAge's release date.
    • Questions about ArcheAge plans for countries other than Korea.
  • Don't repeat questions (read what others have asked).
  • Be polite (don't attack the company or the game).
  • If you think something is a problem, offer a constructive solution.

Think of ArcheAge's races, combat mechanics, monsters, music, geography, politics, graphics, etc. What do you want to know that hasn't already been answered?

Here's the questions we asked last time (and got answers for):

Quote

  • Will there be different server types available? (PvP servers with loot on death, PvE servers with PK disabled, etc.)
  • What are the penalties for dying? (Experience, money, debuff, and so on.)
  • How extensive will ArcheAge's character customization be? Extremely detailed like Aion, or less?
  • Is there a possibility that groups can be larger than six people? (Like Alliances in Aion.)
  • Will relationships be available in-game? Marriage, kings and queens, etc.
  • There's lots of food in ArcheAge, but can any of it go bad (rot) and make players sick?
  • Regarding ArcheAge's art style: is it thoroughly medieval or will there be some "steampunk" elements?
  • Are negotiations already underway to determine who will publish ArcheAge in North America and Europe?
  • Jake, how do you get your hair to look so fabulous?

Try to be as specific and eloquent as possible when writing your questions. You never know who's going to read them! ;)

Questions we have so far:

  • Can we name our horses or boats? (Admin)
  • ArcheAge's crafting system is currently very simple. Will it become more interactive, like Star Wars Galaxies' or Vanguard's? (Beryls)
  • Death penalties during CBT3 were light. Will there eventually be more severe penalties for dying, especially via PK/PvP? (Cavarath)
  • Why would someone build a house on the northern continent if it's safer and probably cheaper (taxes, etc.) to do so on one of the southern continents? (Cavarath)
  • Can labor points be increased beyond 100 somehow? Can they be regenerated faster somehow? (Jojin)
  • Can characters who enter into an in-game "marriage" share houses/bank accounts, etc.? (Veasna)
  • What kind of rewards will be distributed through battlegrounds, or how will players use battleground points? (Entaro)
  • The sea separating the two southern continents felt somewhat small during CBT3. Will it be widened, or is the current size final? (Entaro)
  • Will there be a ladder system for battlegrounds or PvP? Something like GuildWars or Lineage 2's Olympiad? (proofi)
  • Can ships be upgraded with better equipment? (proofi)
  • Teleport books threaten to make carriage and airship travel useless, and the world feel smaller overall. How will teleportation be kept under control? (Dxx)
  • How will court/jail summoning work? Are guilty players automatically summoned after evidence against them is submitted, or will guards or players have to catch the murderer? (Dxx)
  • How will crafted gear match up against dungeon/raid gear? (Vunak)
  • Has XLGAMES considered a "hardcore" server type (like Diablo 2) for players who want death to be much more unforgiving than it currently is? (Vunak)

Questions for XL Games
1) Have you looked at a crafting system similar to Vanguard or Star Wars Galaxies, and would you reconsider adding it to AA?
2) Is there going to be a political system similar to the diplomacy system in Vanguard?
I asked this based off of a statement from and interview done by goha.ru
“Are inter clans relations going to play an important role in the game? Do you think we can expect active and emotional political wars and intrigues?
We are considering, for example, allowing to create new factions or become of high rank within a certain faction depending on the political activities with NPCs. We currently do not plan to show system-wise the relationship between different expeditionary forces, but since relationship between factions is shown in figures, players can assume that such relationship is the same between expeditionary forces.
The relationships will change through players’ activities.”

3) Would you please release more info on world history and races! Please?
4) Can you tell us more about the gods/dieties of ArcheAge?

1. Will more severe death penalties be added combined with a better PK system? Many people think that partial inventory looting would be good while PKers (killing a player that doesnt fight back) would lose more items upon death.
2. Will the premade factions be able to own stuff on the third continent?
3. Will there be a PK system for other factions or will any other faction be a free kill? If not, how do you think should politics be made between different player factions?
4. Houses and ships has been very easy to build in the CBT3. There are worries that all spots will be taken within a few weeks seeing how easy it is. Will the building requirements for these things be increased?
5. Why should someone build a house on the third continent and deal with fluctuating taxes if he could just build one on the other two continents?

My priority is the same as i wrote them down. So, 1 is the most important. If you have or want to choose questions please start at the top.

  • Will there be any to increase Labor Point gains through level, activities or skills?


Question
  • Could a player dedicate his or her time to only being a professional crafter and still play a viable role in the game or is crafting more of a sub-profession to the game?

* In the marriage system will it be possible for 2 people married to have the same rights to a house and everything that comes with it?

* Will it be possible for married people to share the same bank for item storage etc?

* Will characters of the same account have a shared banksection like in Aion or EQ2?

* Will other people be able to attack mobs i already engaged? If yes, do they get a share of the XP/loot or will my XP be comprimised by this?

Hubby and I usually don't bother with getting married in games unless it brings with it some real perks, like a house. Not just a wothless ring clogging up inventory space lol. I guess im too practical for that.

What type of rewards are they planning on giving for battlegrounds/sieges? (gear, consumables, money, political stuffs, unique loot, titles, etc.)

Will the ocean distances be considerably bigger when the game releases? (distance to next continent seemed really close and islands seemed too common)

Archeage will have a collection system? Its nice to collect artifacts scattered around the world to receive rewards .

This would be nice, especially when these collectibles can be sold to other players aswell.

1)Are you planning to make Epic Bosses in open world, which need more than 100 players to be killed? We know about giant sea monter, but what about other ones? Where we can find them? Are you going to force guilds to fight for them in open world or just make a quest to get access to the boss?
2)Are you going to make PVP ladder(GuildWars) or Grand Olympiad (Lineage II) for solo players or groups?
3)What do you think about WOW-style auction in ArcheAge?
4)Are you planning to add PVP/PK count for characters?
5)What is the purpose of rare craft materials from Northen lands? Armor, ships, castles?
6)What do you think about ship customizing and leveling? Maybe additional cannons or sails that can make ship more dangerous or fast or new skills for each new ship's level.

In EQ2 it worked like this, players could find stuff around the world like Ogre Bone, Human Bone etc (or other crap you can imagine). They then turned it in at an npc for a quest and the npc would give reward. Nice for lower lvl characters and a good money maker if you just sold the collectibles in the AH.

On that note, question: I read somewhere that we won't get an auction house (don't ask me where), please say it isn't so. FF14 currently has no AH but uses NPC you can hire and put in special wards, it's a complete mess and really doesn't work that well. Any info on how the buying and selling system is going to look? I would prefer AH and what i liked in EQ2 is that there were special Fence AH's that allowed you to buy from the other faction but at a much higher tax cut.

About the auction house:
Facing that included feedback in your question i have to add the feedback that i dont like auction houses and would prefer to see them stay out of the game. So please ask neutral about this. :P

I'm just worried they will make the same mistake SE did in FF14. And i'm not sure what other kind of system to imagine tbh. I can imagine going to players houses to see if they have that perticular thing i'm looking for, i'm not sure this is what you prefer over AH.

(Ps. im female, we don't do neutral questioning..)

  • Will players be able to play music like in Lord of the rings online?
  • Will we be able to costumize our house depending on race or location in terms of size or style?
  • Will we have appearance slots?
  • Can we place furniture in our house freely (like Everquest 2, Vanguard ...) or will there be predefined slots to place it (like in LOTRO)?

1. We have heard that you implemented a teleportation system. How will it be restricted? Will mounts and common transports still be useful?

2. We do not have much information about the jail system for the moment; Will Pkers be automatically teleported into jail upon blood looting or will you allow other players to hunt them in order to take them to jail?

=> Basically what I suggest here is instead of automatically generating a blood stain on the floor which can be looted to report a player, people should actually hunt and kill the pker to loot his blood and then send him to prison.


3. During the CBT3 we saw some instanced dungeons. How will you balance the rewards between open areas and instanced zones? How will you make sure that there is enough players in the open world to interact with?

4. Another question about instanced dungeon: Will they be open and other players can invade them or will they be closed?

5. According to the SP system it is not possible to learn all the skills of our 3 abilities. Will it be modified in the future? Or is it part of the customisation of our character?

6. Can you tell us more about Guilds and Expeditionary Forces? What they can be composed of, what they can do and how they relate to the pre-set factions?

7. Will it be possible to lvl up other than by questing and completing instanced dungeons? Will group lvling be rewarding in terms or xp and drops?



Sorry that makes a lot of question but I thought they were all more or less important. Thanks Archeage Online and Jake Song!
