That's what I was afraid of  Just hope it will be Buy-to-Play like Guild Wars at most.

With the current design structure and developer history, you can be almost guaranteed it will be Pay to Play.

Well Pay to Play would be best for it.
Unlike the typical MMO where the only thing that really matters is the combat, a game like this that promotes freedom, both in play and choice would seriously be handicapping it's sales point by going Free or Buy to play.
Because they will need to make money somehow and vanity items are very much a part of a sandbox/freedom based game. Restricting it to people who have the cash to burn isn't the best idea.

This ain't no guild wars, unless Jake Song wants to surprise us this game will probably use P2P. You can always keep your fingers crossed since nothing has been announced yet on that regard though...

Why? Because you like to spent twice the amount of money for a game than the usual P2P fee to buy yourself on top?
I prefer to play the game to win instead of paying to win.

Regarding the B2P discussion: There is not a single MMO with this Model. And no, GW is no MMO. Its a CORPG.

My guess would be P2P, with an item mall for cosmetic items, and maybe some items that boost labor points and stuff like that.

Considering the budget on this game was like 50mil or w/e I wont mind it being p2p. I would like to see the amount required lowered to around 5$-10$ a month... =P

I don't understand you guys, you mean: you prefer to pay each month 10$/€/£ to be able to pay instead of buying it once and play it for ever ?? Did i get it ??

You people are either rich or want to loose money if thats the case. i dont understand

Personnaly i would like it to be Buy-to-play since in free-to-play games there are all the kids and noobs that come out of no where ruining the game.

It's not that people dont want it to be Buy to Play, it's just that no MMO has ever done it before. Guild Wars 2 will be the first persistent world MMO to support the Buy to Play model. Archeage will most definitely be one of either free to play with a cash shop or monthly subscription. I thought I read somewhere that they are already shooting for Free 2 Play. Am I wrong?

The cash shops are chaos for games, it ruins it all. It ends by having unbalanced stuff everywhere and Overabused players wich makes you rage when you see that

For the love of god please someone tell him he's wrong

Free to Play with cash shop would be my guess. It's the trend now and I wouldn't be surprised to see it as the norm rather than the exception in just a few short years. EQ II Extended and LoTR have both moved to it.

F2p is the trend of cheap programmed anime mmos.
And EQ II Extended and LoTR have moved to it because they are old mmos.

I think if ArcheAge was going to go cash shop, I would hope they have a good system down that doesn't include OP items. For instance, a cash shop with a large volume of cheap aesthetic items that pertain more to mounts, houses, ships, and guild items. And by guild items I mean different looks of castle walls or keeps, not walls with more HP or something. This way it's something everyone can enjoy, but not break the game.

like I posted in another thread P2P = around $15 a month. B2P and F2P = constant monthly micro transactions to stay competative equaling an unknown and fluctuating amount. Why do I prefer P2P? because I am an adult, with a family and bills. A known, small monthly fee I can work with, an unknown amount I cannot. I like P2P because I am NOT rich and cannot aford to play a "pay to win" game.

Paying the game once :
- You save your money
- Prevent 65% of casual gamers(those who just play the game but not by the rules and Exploit it at less at 80%) and kids from coming in there and ruining the game.
- Since this game WILL have a lot of success it'll be enough for devs, quite sure of it.

- If Kid/casual gamers buy it, they'll be able to stay here for ever.
With in-game boost shop :
- Since people has bought this game because he was "paid once" they will no be able to affrod In game shops, whereas the richones (minority) will disgust the normal ones from the game. We see here if the devs made this game for money OR for the love of the video games.
Without in-game boost shop :
- Everyone will be at the same level without any boosts so only the real game lovers will be over the average and be outstanding the other players (get respect in a roleplay way)

F2P :
- Every single Troll will be able to rush into this and destroy the world of archage, nothing positive on such a game
With in-game boost shop :
- Chaos
Without in-game boost shop :
mess

Subscribe to play :
- beside rich ones , only seriously interested players who can AFFROD the game will be there, dont know what to think of that
(( by the way i think if they do so, they should give the oportunity to subscribe weekly(with phone services for example) and monthly. ))
With in-game boost shop :
- Rage everywhere but more money for devs
Without in-game boost shop :
- Could be awesome

Also i would like to say that a BOOST shop the nemesis of good games, it ruins it all
BUT a customisation shop, like a Shop where you can buy special clothes or special stuff wich's single goal is to enhance your style and/or your fun is the awesomeness itself

SHTUFF

While I agree with most of it, I see a few problems here. For one, just because it's P2P doesn't mean kiddies wont be playing. There are plenty of middle class white people who can afford to pay for a monthly subscription for their kids. Also, "in-game boost shops" don't automatically ruin a game. It's a matter of opinion. It's just poor people whining.

As for free to play, more biased nonsense.

I agree with the customization shop though. That would be the best way to implement it.
