Hi all,
I am new to this forums and game. The first question I would like to ask is if ArcheAge has an achievement system as in WoW or Rift. Thank you for your help.

Hi and welcome.
That question hasn't been discussed with XLGAMES yet, not to my knowledge at least.

Indeed, they might add something at a later stage but so far not seen anything like it in beta.
Let's all pretend there's something really important written here...

Thanks a lot for your replies guys. I hope they will implement an achievement system. If they do, I will buy the game for sure.

"The Party and the Krikkit warship looked, in their writhings, a little like two ducks, one of which is trying to make a third duck inside the second duck, while the second duck is trying very hard to explain that it doesn't feel ready for a third duck right now, is uncertain that it would want any putative third duck to be made by this particular first duck anyways, and certainly not while it, the second duck, was busy flying." - Douglas Adams

Achievements? Who needs em.. we don't need some kiddies screaming they got an achievement title by blowing up ships all day like a no life.
There is a method to Ultima's madness!

TERA has a pretty fun achievement system, though it doesn't work half the time. :l

WoW really fucked it up when players started requesting gear count, dps and achievement links. The challenge should be in the formation of the party too. It break's immersion at outstanding level's too.

Life is half spent before we know what it is.

I like achievements, but I also remember what happened in wow.
But I still would like to see something to show achievement in the game, like fluff items or titles.

The problem with WoW is not the achievement system: It is the community. Players are immature. WoW has been in easy-mode kids friendly since TBC and the result is an immature and abusive community. Blaming the achievement system is itself a sign of immaturity: What about gearscore? I do not see this kind of abuse happening in a PvP oriented sandbox.
An interesting and challenging achievement system is what is going to make me buy the game. To me, it makes the difference between playing or not. I am just wondering if the Travel Journal is going to function as some kind of achievement system.

An achievement system is really easy to make in a game, although XLGAMES hasn't said anything about it, it's still a possibility after they finish adding the content they want at release. Don't forget they still have to add rest of the races and whatnot.
But yeah, considering how easy it is, it can be done in a couple weeks time, shouldn't take more than that to come up with creative names and then add some new states in the code.
I won't go on whether the achievement system itself is a good thing but in my honest opinion, if you played on game that uses an achievement system to keep things going then you played them all since there are only like 5 or 6 types of achievements.

I will though. I think a system that tracks a players achievements the right way, would be an awesome addition to the game. WoW was on the right track, but like Zil said, they fucked it up. It needs to be a system like what J.R.R. Tolkien did in his The Simarrilion. He told the reader of great achievements that men, and women, had accomplished. Tuor killed five Bolrogs of Angband with his axe. By himself. Wow. Now, the correlation is, if they implement a system like "So-and-So killed 3 giant spiders in one battle, by himself", people will go "Oh wow, he must be quite the warrior". It's not the perfect system I know, but if they build on it, it could be glorious. I want it to tell people, this is what I can do, this is what I have done. When people sit down around a campfire, the don't tell stories of helping small children run a glass of alcohol to a neighbor, they tell of that massive deer they shot and tracked for hours till they finally found it and put it down. Something epic, something worthy of telling someone. Not how many eggs you collected on Easter.

This makes a lot of sense. Your picture doesn't, but what you say definitely does.

Picture? You mean about Tuor and him killing 5 Balrogs by himself?

That would be an interesting system. I can see it working. I still want some fluff added in. But it would be a cool thing to use when rping.

That really sounds like a great system. I can see it working especially well with the part where Jake said that he wanted to make it so that solo players who were sufficiently determined to take on a big monsters could do so. And yes, a great mechanism to make RP'ers actually get outside the towns once in a while.

What Asphy suggests could be an innovative feature if developed in the right way. It makes me wonder even more on the function of the Travel Journal. They say the journal is supposed to record the characters' heroic feats and that this will be accessible even on the website. I remember WAR having something similar (The Tome of Knowledge, or something like that), but I would like Archage to implement something more complex than that. Maybe mixing up Rift's achievement system and WAR's Tome of Knowledge would result in something like Asphy is suggesting.
