So with all that said, how well do you think Archeage will do in the west? Do you think there are any marketing stratigies they can do that will appeal to western audiences? (Personally I feel if they hired the people who did the marketing campaign for Dragon Age Origins, then they would be on a good path, oh and stay away from highlighting 11 year old looking female characters and guys who ALL dress like Rupaul, just saying)
Personal Feelings aside, Will Archeage appeal to a mainstream PC gamming audience?

As all Korean games, I'm sure it will be labeled as a korean grinder.
It's up to the game itself to break out of that label.

That's right! It wasn't me who was wrong. It was the world!

I think, more than other Korean games, ArcheAge may have some appeal to western audiences, especially if they can hook the WoW crowd (I know some people are cringing, but hear me out). I've shown AA to people who know nothing more than WoW in terms of MMOs and they love the graphics and love a lot of the ideas of the game. Those burned by Aion seem to be the ones harder to impress, but when they hear about the content available at low levels and the third faction option (along with some FFA PvP), they at least see it as a better idea than Aion was in it's infancy. The main issue at the moment is getting AA out there and people talking about.

I still play WoW and personally i love this game its got way more freedom than WoW high end graphics i would say just about everything i have seen of AA would make me quit WoW in a heartbeat as long as i knew i could play it where i live
So yes i think it will appeal to the masses mostly for one reason its Not a WoW clone in any way its well thought out new type of MMO taking one bold step and i believe it will be worth it just hope the servers will handle the influx of players

The USA isn't really the BIG bucks for Korean games, has never really been. Quiet frankly WoW makes more money out of China.
Anyway ArcheAge biggest following will most likely be from Asian and Europe. I don't expect much out of the US.
Even though simply being Asian made cuts prospective player numbers in half I think there are enough people looking for features like those presented in this game that will take the plunge. After that it's up to ArcheAge and their personal tastes as to weather or not they keep those numbers.
But yeah I expect the smallest numbers will be NA and the largest will be among EU and Asia.

What the guy above me said. Archeage is in a tight spot with the US right now, only because of it's Korean blood, so to speak. I'm telling people here and there about it, in hopes that people will look into it, and I have gotten some negative and positive feedback. Most of the negative feedback was mostly from the fear of grinding.
The ironic part is those people I've talk to were from Rift, who are busy grinding out PvP ranks, and soon they'll be grinding another faction once 1.6 hits.

This is actually incorrect. There have been articles on WowInsider and Massively that haven shown how much and from where WoW makes its money. WoWs USA profits alone make 3 times more revenue then all of its eastern based customers combined. Which makes sense as their methods of payments vary signifcantly from the western 15 bucks a month model. This doesnt even include the rest of the western world.
I would be curious to see Aions profists spread out to. My guess is it would be simillar results.

i dont know why they wouldnt try to go to the US. they are boasting this game to be the first 3rd generation MMO and seem to be very proud of that. dont know why you would make a mmo that you are very proud of and try to market it other places. with a little marketing im sure this game could be very successful in the US. it looks like a game that could attract many people from wow. iits a tab target game like wow but has great character customization and sandbox elements.

Really hoping that ArcheAge will do well in the western market since it looks to have a lot of potential, but sadly it will most likely just get the label of Korean grinder and get shunned by a lot of players.

I'm sure XL has every faith in their game and expect it to do well everywhere.
I just don't have much faith in the market. P:
Among other things a lot of people I've talk to seem to resent the idea of players having a direct impact on the world which in turn impacts them.

Nearly every MMO i have played is a grinder in some shape or form mostly for PvP gear or some other thing, AA 'might' be a grinder but u get so much from it.
But that's my opinion

If it appeals to me then it should appeal to other players. If you have commonsense and take your time to understand what ArcheAge is about it should be granted a chance. Shouldn't judge a game if you haven't played it, gotta be open to new things and take the OB for a spin. Obviously ArcheAge is from Korea and that automatically turns off people, but I think that if the game does well over-time people will forget that silly argument.

Life is half spent before we know what it is.

Sadly that's not really the case in the MMO market, if the game doesn't have a large following to begin with it's hard for a game to attract new players because everyone is always looking for the next big game to play. Just sadly the state the MMO market, games don't really increase in popluation over time, they just decrease.

Guess we will have to see, these are times where many people are looking for something new and refreshing.

if they want to be successful here in the west there gonna have to do a few things. #1 thing is there goin to have to release a triple A game with very little bugs. and im goin to list this next one as #1.2 here because its just as important as #1 and that's advertising. there gonna need to plaster there game all over every
gaming/non-gaming website. all over face book and twitter. they have to take advantage of the new way of advertising. In turn they need to do what Trion Worlds did with Rift.
They were giving away beta keys and crap like that from contests they held on there forums that made you use there twitter and face book account. very clever.
Also the faster they update the US version of the games main web site the better. People that may be curious about this game wont get very far on that web page.
Doesn't even have community forums. They will need a massive PR campaign to sway the "on the fence" type players to even look that AA let alone buy it and sub
to it. I hope to God this game hits it off in the US but i also hope that AA stays true to its self and they don't let the masses turn this gem of a game into a pile of
westernized crap.
Will follow this game till its release and hopefully years beyond.

This is your first post and mine also, but I agree with everything you said. They really need to build a PR presence in the US if they hope for this game to compete in a western market. This game is in the stages of how Lineage 2 was before it was released. Where there was just a few fan sites and L2orphus.com was the main hub. Kind of like where Archeagesource.com is now.

I think if there are a lot of crazy things happening in the game (like in EVE Online), it will get some people interested. But that will only work if it has a trial.

I am part of the mainstream PC gaming audience and this game appeals to me, I think that's as valid an answer as any you'll find in this thread (:
We're used to bugs, we're used to grinding, we're used to bad customer service... We're used to a lot of bad aspects of MMO's so it shouldn't be that hard to please us. But considering all the shit we've been proposed in the form of MMORPG's it was really difficult to get hooked.
ArcheAge does not seem to be shit, that is more than enough of a reason for me to play it.

This game actually has stuff to do, it will have its own player base.
