I think to game will pick up huge players base with a bit marketing.Since this is first MMO who actually got other staffs to do beside classic PVP and PVE (instances) shit...In this game there is a ton of other interesting things to do and that is Archeage best card to play with. All other MMOs are similar in some way, even if combats styles are different ,point is usually same. But this game expanded MMO world behaviors and style, they involved more interesting things in game what in my opinion can crush all other mmo's . If u read forums of other games,( i will take as example game with highest hype,GW2) a lot of ppl ask for housing staffs, ans some more interesting things, which this game have...Ok GW2 is different type of game, but u have to count to gw2 is fantasy MMO also, but with accent on different things, such as WvWvW PvP...There is ppl who like that but there is ppl who looking for this kind of game...I'm prety sure to ArcheAge can be game of the year if makes smart moves in EU/USA...Asia is huge gaming market but USA and EU is big also,if not even bigger...
Personal Feelings aside, Will Archeage appeal to a mainstream PC gamming audience?

Been trying to spread the word. Standing on my patented AA soapbox and proselytizing to the masses about the wonders of AA.
The two things I have found that seemed to be the best at grabbing interest so far have been the CBT4 Preview trailer, and the Kraken vid. Both have enough of the wow factor to get people noticing things.
Once they are interested there are more detailed things to tease, the official Char designer, the interviews, and the recent MMO magazine article.
The more dedicated can be pointed to one of Steparu's recorded sessions over on TwitchTV.
Bullet points to "name drop";
-Crime system
-Ships of 3 varieties so far
-Mounts donkey, horse, cat racial
-Airships and Gliders
-Build your own character design system
-3 house styles, one a guild mansion, Castles and villages
-Open seamless world
-Quest based leveling (so it seems) not your typical "Korean grinder"
-PvP, RvR(?),
-Castle sieges, bombardments and siege engines
...etc...

Tastes/ideals in gaming vary so much that I'm not sure that there is a mainstream.
I think that ArcheAge has an English-speaking long-term market of at least 100,000, but probably no more than 300,000.
I'd say that's a good thing. May progress stop for no one.

I have been spreading the words too but I have got a lot of "Korean grinder"label but when I showed them videos of crafting and naval battle and the impressive landscape there's always that marvelled expression.
I think this game can be a hit if the marketing is done well.Lots of players have no ideas that there are other ways playing MMORPG than the WoW model and that MMO were once about huge worlds and AA is bringing this back.

spreading the word is wonderful and all but XLGames is goin to have to launch there own full scale PR campaign. a full on interaction with a wide player base. imo that would be the best way to reach out to the masses and gain some trust. though i dont know if i want to play with the "masses". there the ones that screw up these games with comments like
"This boss is to hard to beat! reduce its HPs and ATK power please"
or
" OMG! ~ Add class here ~ just ripped me apart in PVP! ~ Add class here ~ NEEDS A NERF NOW!!"
XLGames needs to know that they need to stay away from these types of posts and just allow the game to work as intended. im tired of having to relearn how to play my class 5 different times dew to the nerf bat. im sure there are goin to be tweeks needs here and there but just be careful they dont over do it like Rift seems to do every damn update.

The USA isn't really the BIG bucks for Korean games, has never really been. Quiet frankly WoW makes more money out of China.
Anyway ArcheAge biggest following will most likely be from Asian and Europe. I don't expect much out of the US.
Even though simply being Asian made cuts prospective player numbers in half I think there are enough people looking for features like those presented in this game that will take the plunge. After that it's up to ArcheAge and their personal tastes as to weather or not they keep those numbers.
But yeah I expect the smallest numbers will be NA and the largest will be among EU and Asia.

Funny you have it Backwards.
China makes up Less Then 10% of WoW's income. They use time cards and don't Sub.
http://wow.joystiq.c...illion-subscri/
"Except that's not right. Because while North American and European players pay about $15 a month, many Chinese and Asian subscribers don't pay monthly-- they pay hourly, at a much lower rate than what other players around the world pay. "

But Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said in a Friday research note that the financial impact on Activision Blizzard from the downtime will be "modest," partly because Asia makes up just 6 percent of total worldwide World of Warcraft revenues, he estimated.
"While Asia accounts for roughly 50 percent of global users, we estimate the region contributes less than 10 percent of total WoW revenues, due to the licensing structure and timecard model," he wrote.
I disagree...
U.S. / Canadain Players loved UO. Funny on Dark FAll The N/A Servers were way fuller and are still then EU.
I know for a fact that my friends will play this, They are already making up guilds.

I'd rather pay once a month than per hour.., can't imagine paying per hour will net out being cheaper for me tbh.
Well, maybe if it's like a few cents per hour, but even that is hard to imagine. Will most likely be something like 25 eurocents per hour already..., so no, give me once per month rather.

Oh also I wanted to add.. I'm playing swtor and I can honestly say, that game is great now but it wont last. Most of my guild is up to level 50 and there going to run out of stuff to do very quickly. Remaking a character is crazy because you do the same stories all over again and that gets old.
I already told my guild about this game and they are looking into it. I think there will be a huge number of players that have left wow for swtor and will be looking for another game.
I think the word just hasn't gotten out yet about ARchEAge

I think if they have a good marketing plan it'll have a solid population. I think people in carebear games are starting to look for something new. These are the people that got their start on WoW and other such games, who have no idea what else is out there. The genre itself started as a niche, and that niche started out with pvp and sandbox themes with games like UO. Andven though its unpopular now I think the genre is heading back to its roots. I'm just hoping that AA is the game to set that in motion!

I know there are more people like myself in the west that are sick of the Western MMO models falling short of what a MMO should be. Most of the larger player base for these type of games are just too casual and want games that are easy for them to play.
Will they play this type of a game? I think they would if they gave it a chance. I myself am done with any Western Themepark MMO ever again no matter how big their numbers are, they only last for a few months time anyway. I want a long term MMO to play.

Is AA good enough to steal fans from other existing MMOs, perhaps? Is it beautiful and different enough to attract a new generation of Asian, European and North American players? I think so.
A lot will depend on the advertising and the timing of the release in relation to games such as Guild Wars II, TERA online, Secret World, Firefall, Planetside 2 et all....has the market ever been this competitive?
MMO consumers are more critical than ever, and it's only a matter of time before evolution provides us with a real next generation MMO, I'm not certain AA is the answer, but I think it's a logical step in the right direction.
It has some bells and whistles to get me excited, and it seems a bit more flexibility in gaming style than most.

The Elves had a prophecy about the expedition to the land of origins, which they termed "Ishtari".
