Pretty much as the title asks, have any of the beta players or Korean speakers heard any discussion of a NA/EU publisher or plans to self publish?

I know we had news a while back about China and I think Japan, but we are lingering in suspense here in the west.

I hope that we hear soon about EU/NA publishers, cuz the game looks very promising compared the overhyped crap games released in the past few years.
And please dont tell anything to Electronic Arts and Frogster about this game, it would be a disaster if they would publish it :)

Hell, I would prefer the disaster that is SOE over EA.
Also don't let them 'westernize' the game, so as not to traumatize the poor little kiddies who might catch a glimpse of the screen.

NCsoft is not a distributor you know they distribute only products they own. EA the same. EA is the company that consumes others, only when they own them they release the game (and usually destroy the studio afterwards, Ill never forgive them that they destroyed Westwood), if they intended such a thing with XLgames, it would happen already. Right now the game looks too risky to get attention of someone really big.

Frogster I know for very bad reputation, lags starting poor support continuing, GM corruption finishing and censoring the game to fit 12+ imploding....

I honestly do not know. That is why I think doing it by themselves would be the most economical and promising way. It will probably not happen but I would like to see it happen.

Honestly if taking the easy way, why not just sell it trough Steam, it is easy way and it mostly works, people know it, people trust it, and I would not put the game to physical shelves at all, this only feeds the greedy companies and distributors that even support stuff like ACTA/SOPA/PIPA, I'm not buying any game ever the way that would bring them a cent of my money. Criminals.

While distribution via Steam would be the ideal these days, they would still need/want someone to provide localization and whatever coding changes may be needed due to localization.

btw, I am amazed at the people who use the net everyday, and yet haven't a clue as to the impact ACTA/SOPA/PIPA will have if implemented as written. Criminals indeed!

Yeah I was wondering what an NA/EU publisher would cut in the name of "westernization." I think Jake Song already took the west into account when he made this game.

Not to mention EA destroyed my favorite mmo developer Mythic Entertainment. Now they're spread all through EA games...

I think, hope, the only westernization will be language issues.

Aion had some problems where they forgot to translate crafting recipe names properly, ie. one cooking recipe that called for a Elyos resource name yet showed the proper Asmo resource picture. Quick fix.
Also Aion had early on an insanely short maximum char name length and no capitol letters allowed, something it looks like AA still has at least partially.

Heheh, yeah FFXIV had this for chat space. Insanely short for our alphabet but perfectly fine for japanese signs. They fixed it eventually.

I kind of hope they do a forced first letter capital though for westernisation, it just irks me if people don't write their name with an capital letter. (same for mountnames ofcourse..)

Nothing. I hope nothing. The best for me would be plain text translational, original voices, no reducing and such. Most of the games do not suffer from any major changes, those who did are usually crippled by a terrible publishers, like before mentioned Frogster, which tend to cut the game to sell them to even younger and younger kids, because adults would flee from their terrible services.

I have a hard time not setting on fire when I spot something like that happening, like for example they decided to censor Elin in Tera because some trolls were crying too loud. They do not realize, that most of the people who are fans of the game, the most true and loyal customers like the game, they want to play this Korean game, they do not want the game to be modified to fit the standards of some shameful western-christian infested culture.

That would be nice, if they kept the original voices and just gave subtitles for the NA version. It wouldn't feel so alienated and mainly wouldn't take as long to come over into the western market. :D

I do dislike all the censoring that goes on when a game or any piece of media really gets imported.

Or simply, they can make the porting of sounds not prohibited to satisfy me.

I would just use the ones from Japanese version..... like a lot of people did with Aion.

Yep Enerzeal. From what I've heard Japan and China both have publishers.

caveat lector: I was going from memory of something read a while back. Would have to look it up, sorry.

edit: OK my apologies, all I could find reference to was China's Tencent liscense of AA. The Japan comment was based off of a forum reply and seems unfounded.

Yeah I'm sure they're a big part of the problems that TOR is having. I'd really like to see how Ubisoft would handle things personally.
